The Potential Defensive Reinforcements for Atlético Madrid

The Potential Defensive Reinforcements for Atlético Madrid

It has been reported by sources that Atlético Madrid is on the verge of securing the services of Real Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand in a deal valued at approximately €30 million. Furthermore, negotiations are also underway to bring Feyenoord center-back Dávid Hancko to the club. Le Normand, a 27-year-old French-born player, has demonstrated his skills on the field, making 47 appearances for Real Sociedad in the last season.

Interestingly, Atlético Madrid was able to convince Real Sociedad executives to reduce their initial asking price of €35 million for Le Normand. This successful negotiation has paved the way for the defender to join Atlético this summer. The club’s manager, Diego Simeone, has specifically highlighted the need for strengthening the defensive line, especially after conceding 43 goals in LaLiga last season.

Focus on Defensive Rejuvenation

To address this defensive vulnerability, Atlético Madrid is also considering signing Dávid Hancko from Feyenoord. The Slovakia center-back is keen on playing in LaLiga, although a deal has not been finalized yet. Atletico’s offer of €20 million has not been accepted by Feyenoord, who is holding out for a higher bid of over €30 million. Despite this, Atlético remains hopeful of reaching an agreement and is exploring other options if necessary.

The defensive reshuffle at Atlético Madrid is not limited to new signings. Long-time defender Stefan Savic has terminated his contract, while Mario Hermoso has declined a contract extension, signaling their departure from the club. Additionally, Turkish defender Caglar Söyüncü is expected to leave Atlético, creating a void in the defensive lineup that needs to be filled with quality reinforcements.

Atlético Madrid’s pursuit of defensive talents like Robin Le Normand and Dávid Hancko is a strategic move to bolster their squad and address the weaknesses observed in the previous season. With negotiations ongoing and alternative options being considered, the club is focused on building a strong defensive foundation for the upcoming season.
