The ins and outs of the summer transfer window

Jack Grealish, the 28-year-old midfielder at Manchester City, is faced with a dilemma as he considers his future at the club. Despite wanting to fight for his place in Pep Guardiola’s squad this season, there are reports suggesting that he could be tempted by a January switch if he continues to remain on the periphery. Grealish started just 10 matches in the Premier League last season, and his influence has waned since the arrival of Jérémy Doku in 2023. This has led to him being left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad. While Grealish believes he is in peak physical condition and is determined to prove himself to Guardiola, he is also open to the idea of leaving for regular first-team football, with former club Aston Villa showing interest.

Atletico Madrid is keeping its options open in case their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher falls through. They have already agreed on a move for Valencia’s Javi Guerra, should Gallagher decide not to join them. With key additions like Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sørloth, Atletico is looking to further strengthen their squad by bringing in Guerra for a fee of €25 million. However, they are currently waiting for Gallagher to make a decision on his future before finalizing the deal.

Chelsea has entered the race to sign Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley as they see him as a potential replacement for Gallagher. O’Riley has attracted interest from several clubs, including Southampton and Atalanta. Celtic is holding out for a fee of around £20 million for the 23-year-old midfielder, who has turned down a new contract offer from the Scottish club.

Bayer Leverkusen is looking to strengthen their defensive options and are eyeing a move for Liverpool’s Joël Matip as a free agent. Talks between Leverkusen and Matip have been positive, but the 32-year-old defender is also considering other offers. Leverkusen is considering Matip as a short-term option in case Jonathan Tah leaves the club, with the potential for a contract extension until 2026.

Inter Milan’s pursuit of Federico Chiesa

Inter Milan has joined the race to sign Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, who has been made available for transfer by Juve boss Thiago Motta. With just one year left on his contract, Juventus is hoping to sell Chiesa for a fee of around €40 million to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Inter Milan, along with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, are among the clubs interested in signing the 26-year-old attacker.

RB Leipzig’s stance on Dani Olmo

RB Leipzig has rejected Barcelona’s initial offer for midfielder Dani Olmo, insisting that they will only consider a deal if a better offer is made. Barcelona has submitted a proposal that meets Leipzig’s €60 million valuation for Olmo but only in installments and bonuses. Leipzig is open to letting Olmo leave for his preferred destination, but they are adamant about receiving a serious one-off fee from Barcelona. The German club is willing to be patient and is in no rush to sell one of their star players.
