Major League Soccer’s All-Star Game is set to bring together the best of Liga MX for the third time in the last four years, according to an announcement by MLS. The highly anticipated matchup is scheduled to take place on July 24 at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio. After hosting Arsenal in 2023, this year’s exhibition game marks a return to the MLS vs. Liga MX format, following successful showdowns in 2021 and 2022.

Camilo Durana, MLS’ Executive Vice President of Properties and Events, expressed excitement about the collaboration with Liga MX. He highlighted the intense competition and high level of play witnessed in the previous All-Star Games between the two leagues. The strong partnership between MLS and Liga MX extends beyond the All-Star Game, encompassing tournaments such as Leagues Cup and the Campeones Cup.

With MLS maintaining an unbeaten record against Liga MX in the All-Star Games, the future looks promising for further collaboration. Durana hinted at the possibility of featuring Liga MX in future editions of the MLS All-Star Game, citing the success of Leagues Cup in driving fan engagement and viewership. The strategic timing of the MLS vs. Liga MX matchup aligns with the momentum of the Leagues Cup, creating a buzz for both leagues leading up to the tournament.

Exciting Events on the Horizon

Following the All-Star Game, the summer will continue to showcase the partnership between MLS and Liga MX with the start of the Leagues Cup on July 26. The tournament, featuring all clubs from both leagues, promises a competitive and thrilling competition resembling a “World Cup style” format. In addition, the Campeones Cup later in the year will see reigning MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew face off against Liga MX’s 2023-24 Campeon de Campeones winners.

MLS fans will play a crucial role in determining the roster for the All-Star Game, with 12 players selected through a fan vote. All-Star coach Wilfried Nancy will also have a say in choosing 12 players, while MLS Commissioner Don Garber will add two more names to complete the roster. On the Liga MX side, details regarding the 26-man roster are yet to be announced. In addition to the main event, both leagues will compete in a Skills Challenge, where each league boasts one win.
