Sergiño Dest Joins PSV Eindhoven on a Free Transfer

Sergiño Dest, the Barcelona and United States right-back, has made a move to Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer. This decision has been confirmed by the Catalan club, mentioning that they will receive a percentage of any future transfer involving Dest. The original deal had Dest’s contract with Barcelona set to expire next summer, but now he is set to continue his career with PSV Eindhoven.

Dest, who is 23 years old, had spent the previous season on loan at PSV Eindhoven. Despite the Dutch team initially turning down the option to make the move permanent for €11 million after Dest suffered an ACL injury in April, negotiations continued. In the end, a new low-cost agreement was reached, and Dest has signed a contract with PSV until 2028. Dest expressed his gratitude towards PSV, stating that the club believes in him and that he is greatly appreciated there. He also mentioned that he is looking forward to continuing his rehabilitation and contributing to the team’s success.

Dest’s Journey

Before his time at PSV Eindhoven, Sergiño Dest had broken through at Ajax before making a move to Barcelona in 2020 for around €20 million. Despite making 72 appearances for Barcelona in his first two seasons, Dest spent the last two years out on loan – first in Italy with AC Milan and then with PSV. Born in the Netherlands, Dest is eligible to play for the USMNT, representing the country with 33 appearances and two goals.

PSV Eindhoven’s director of football, Earnie Stewart, expressed his excitement over Dest’s arrival, emphasizing the player’s qualities and the positive impact he had during his time on loan last season. Stewart mentioned that despite Dest’s injury situation, the club was convinced of signing him on a full-time basis. Dest played a crucial role in PSV’s 25th national title, showcasing his talent and potential for the team.

As Sergiño Dest embarks on a new chapter with PSV Eindhoven, the club is optimistic about his contribution to the team. The belief in Dest’s abilities and the warm environment at PSV has provided him with confidence as he continues his rehabilitation process. With his eyes set on making a significant impact on the pitch and winning titles, Dest is eager to seize the opportunities that lie ahead in the Eredivisie.
