Manchester United Nearing Loan Agreement for Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United is making progress in finalizing a loan agreement for Jadon Sancho to join Borussia Dortmund, according to a reliable source. Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing since the start of the January transfer window, and they are now close to reaching terms for a loan deal until the end of the season.

As part of the agreement, Dortmund is expected to pay a small loan fee of approximately €3 million ($3.2 million) and contribute to Sancho’s wages. However, United will likely still have to cover at least half of the 23-year-old’s £300k-per-week salary. It’s worth noting that Sancho has been absent from United’s lineup since August due to a highly publicized clash with manager Erik ten Hag. During the past four months, he has been training alone.

Dortmund, keen to evaluate Sancho’s fitness levels, plans to assess him during their warm weather training camp in Marbella. This evaluation period will be crucial as the team prepares to resume their Bundesliga campaign against Darmstadt on January 13th. Sancho previously enjoyed notable success at Dortmund from 2017 to 2021, scoring 50 goals in 137 games. However, after joining United in a £73 million deal, he has struggled to find his form and even lost his place in the England squad following the 2021 European Championships.

United’s decision to expedite Sancho’s loan move in January reflects their belief that it is in the best interest of all parties involved. Manager Erik ten Hag had initially left a door open for Sancho’s return to the squad if the player made a private and public apology for questioning the reasons behind his exclusion from the lineup in the 3-1 defeat against Arsenal on September 3rd. Unfortunately, Sancho has thus far refused to issue such an apology.

While it seems unlikely that Sancho will play for United again under Ten Hag’s management, there remains a possibility of him making a comeback if a different regime takes over. With a contract that extends until 2026, Sancho has not ruled out the idea of returning to Old Trafford if the Dutchman loses his job in the future.

In other news, Tottenham Hotspur has announced the return of Spanish defender Sergio Reguilón after United decided to end his loan spell. This move marks Reguilón’s departure from Old Trafford and his reunion with the London-based club.
