New signing Brandon Vázquez brings excitement and hope for Monterrey

Monterrey, one of the powerhouses in Liga MX, has recently made an exciting acquisition to bolster their attacking options. U.S. men’s national team forward, Brandon Vázquez, has joined the club from MLS side FC Cincinnati. The 25-year-old has signed a long-term contract that will see him stay with the Mexican side until December 2027.

The transfer of Vázquez to Monterrey is reported to be worth up to $8.5 million, which is a substantial investment by the club. FC Cincinnati has also negotiated a sell-on clause, ensuring they stand to gain from any future transfers involving Vázquez. This lucrative deal highlights the high regard in which Vázquez’s skills are held.

In a team release, FC Cincinnati’s general manager, Chris Albright, expressed his gratitude to Vázquez for his contributions to the team. Vásquez was an integral part of the side that clinched FC Cincinnati’s first trophy, and his role will forever be celebrated in the history of the club. Vázquez himself expressed his affection for Cincinnati, stating that his best years have been spent there, and he will always cherish the memories he made during his time with the team.

Before making the move to Monterrey, Vázquez had attracted interest from European clubs. However, the Mexican-American forward believed that staying with Cincinnati would provide him with the fastest and best route to eventually play in Europe. This decision reflects his ambition to test himself against the top-level competition that Europe offers.

Vázquez’s goal-scoring prowess has been evident during his time with FC Cincinnati. He netted an impressive 28 goals over two seasons, earning himself a spot in the MLS All-Star team in 2022. Additionally, his contributions played a significant role in helping the club secure the prestigious Supporters’ Shield title in 2023. Before his time in MLS, Vázquez had stints with Atlanta United FC and was also part of Club Tijuana’s youth academy in Liga MX.

Vázquez made his debut for the U.S. men’s national team in 2023 and has already made an impact, scoring four goals in just eight appearances. Despite also being eligible to play for Mexico, Vázquez has stated that he has not been contacted by the Mexican federation, emphasizing his commitment to the U.S. national team.

As Monterrey prepares for the upcoming Clausura tournament, Vázquez’s arrival brings renewed optimism for the club. After finishing second in the regular season table during the recent Apertura tournament, the team aims to go further in the playoffs this time around. Their campaign begins with a home opener against Puebla on January 13th, where fans will eagerly anticipate the debut of their new signing.

The arrival of Brandon Vázquez at Monterrey has generated excitement and hope among fans and the club itself. With his proven goal-scoring ability, experience, and ambitions to play in Europe, Vázquez is poised to make a significant impact and be a key player for Monterrey in the seasons to come.
