The MLS All-Star roster for the upcoming clash against Liga MX’s top players will be headlined by none other than football legend Lionel Messi. This will be the first time Messi will feature in the MLS All-Star game since joining Inter Miami CF in July 2023. Despite narrowly missing out on last year’s event, Messi is now set to take the field alongside his Inter Miami teammates Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets. The 30-player MLS All-Star roster was meticulously put together through a combination of fan, player, and media votes, along with selections by Columbus Crew manager Wilfried Nancy and two picks from MLS commissioner Don Garber. Notably, all four Inter Miami players secured their spots on the roster due to an overwhelming show of support from fans. In total, 18 different clubs are represented in the roster, with Inter Miami and Columbus Crew being the most well-represented teams. The captain of the MLS All-Star squad will be determined by a fan vote, with the candidates yet to be announced for this prestigious role.
This year’s MLS All-Star game will mark the third encounter between MLS and Liga MX All-Stars, following the matches in 2021 and 2022. Interestingly, MLS emerged victorious in both previous clashes, triumphing in Los Angeles and Minnesota. In addition to the match itself, the MLS All-Stars will also participate in a skills challenge where 10 players from each side will showcase their abilities in various soccer-related tests. The 2024 MLS All-Star roster boasts a diverse group of talented players across different positions.
