Manchester United’s Plans for the Upcoming Season

Manchester United is gearing up for the upcoming season by expecting both Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood to report back to training if they have not left the club by the start of preseason. The club has set a deadline for players not involved in the European Championship or Copa América to return to Carrington on July 8. While the club is actively working on finding new clubs for Sancho and Greenwood, they will be expected back in training if they remain United players by the specified deadline.

Greenwood, who has garnered interest from clubs like Lazio, Juventus, Napoli, and Marseille, could potentially train at Carrington for the first time since January 2022. This was when he was suspended following his arrest on suspicion of various charges. The case against Greenwood was dropped in February 2023, and he resumed his career on loan at Getafe last season. The upcoming season could mark a fresh start for the young player.

In the case of Sancho, arrangements for his potential return have not yet been finalized. The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund and has not trained with the first team since his public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag. Despite being offered to clubs like Barcelona and Juventus, the valuation of around £40 million has been a stumbling block for interested parties. United is seeking permanent departures for both Sancho and Greenwood, but they are open to considering loan offers as well.

Meanwhile, Manchester United is actively reshaping Erik ten Hag’s staff ahead of the new season. Talks have been held with Go Ahead Eagles manager Rene Hake, who is set to be offered a role in the backroom team at Old Trafford. Hake, who previously worked with Ten Hag at FC Twente, is expected to bring valuable experience to the coaching staff. Additionally, former United striker and former PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is also rumored to be joining the coaching staff, indicating a significant shake-up in the team’s management.

The impending changes in the coaching staff also raise questions about the futures of current assistants Mitchell van der Gaag, Steve McClaren, and forwards coach Benni McCarthy. With Hake and Van Nistelrooy set to join the team, the roles of the existing staff members are uncertain. It remains to be seen how the new additions will impact the team’s performance and dynamics in the upcoming season.
